The 2004 Colorado College State of the Rockies Report named Flathead County as the most diverse economy in the Rocky Mountain West . At the end of the 1990's almost 1,000 more firms were doing business in Flathead County than at the beginning of the decade, according to the Center for the Rocky Mountain West, and more than 15,700 new jobs were created. Capital investment in the Flathead continues to be strong. The area is well on track to close more than $1 billion in residential real estate sales in 2005 in addition to investment in commercial ventures, public spending and infrastructure development.
